The Muster Point Team
The Muster Point is a veteran-led organisation, built and delivered by people who have served in the UK Armed Forces. Every member of our core team is a veteran, bringing lived experience of military service, transition to civilian life, and the challenges many veterans face after leaving the Armed Forces.
Because we are veterans ourselves, we understand the realities behind the words. From operational service and injury, to loss of identity, mental health challenges, and rebuilding purpose, our team supports veterans from a place of shared experience, trust, and credibility.
This veteran-led approach removes barriers and encourages honest conversations. It creates a safe, welcoming space where former service personnel can reconnect, rebuild camaraderie, and access peer support without judgement or explanation.
The Muster Point is not a service delivered to veterans. It is a veteran community built by veterans, for veterans, focused on connection, wellbeing, and practical support across Hertfordshire. Our shared aim is simple: ensure no veteran feels isolated, unheard, or unsupported after service.
Our Directors

Steve Black
Former Royal Tank Regiment Challenger 2 crewman and mechanical engineer specialising in fault-finding and problem-solving. With a strong family history of military service, Steve understands both the pride of service and the realities of life after the Army.
Having experienced the challenges of transition first-hand, Steve is driven by a determination that no veteran should struggle alone. He is a patient listener with a practical mindset, focused on helping veterans work through issues and find realistic, effective solutions.
Camaraderie sits at the heart of his work. Whether sparking conversations or encouraging others to share their experiences, Steve knows that talking together helps individuals and strengthens the whole group. Seeing veterans open up motivates him because he has seen how it benefits both the speaker and those listening.
The Muster Point began as a simple conversation about the lack of veteran-specific support locally and quickly grew into something more meaningful. As a co-founder, Steve hopes that improving veterans’ wellbeing will also have a positive impact on their families and, in time, inspire future generations to see service and veteran life in a positive light.

Stu Mendelson
Stu brings a combination of senior operational experience, lived experience, and therapeutic practice to his role as Co-Founder and Director of The Muster Point.
He spent 14 years in civil engineering as a surveyor, managing teams on some of the UK’s largest construction projects, before establishing and running his own surveying company. This background has given him strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills, alongside the ability to build and sustain complex projects.
Stu served in the Royal Engineers, deploying to Afghanistan in 2009. During that tour he was injured by a Taliban IED, resulting in the loss of his right eye. His military service and subsequent transition into civilian life have shaped his understanding of the challenges veterans face long after leaving uniform.
Now in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, Stu uses his lived experience to support other veterans battling addiction and mental health difficulties. He is a qualified equine therapist and is training as a Gestalt therapist, bringing a trauma-informed, person-centred approach to veteran support.
As a director, Stu is passionate about ensuring no veteran feels unseen and that veterans have a clear voice. His long-term aim is to help create a system where veterans only have to tell their story once and receive coordinated, appropriate care and support.
Stu co-founded The Muster Point after recognising the lack of veteran-specific spaces in Stevenage where former service personnel could reconnect and rediscover camaraderie. His vision is for The Muster Point to become a trusted hub of support and connection for veterans across Hertfordshire and beyond.

Marc Wooster
Marc joined the British Army in 2008, serving as a Command Post Signaller in the Royal Artillery. After leaving service, he built a career as an IT Infrastructure Engineer within the motor retail sector, developing strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills that he now brings to The Muster Point alongside his lived military experience.
Although initially less connected to the veteran community, Marc discovered, much to his surprise, the strength and scale of the veteran presence in Stevenage. Having navigated the transition from military to civilian life himself, he understands the importance of peer support, shared understanding, and maintaining a sense of belonging beyond service.
As a Director of The Muster Point, Marc is particularly passionate about veteran-led activities that bring people together. He strongly believes that the friendships and shared experiences forged in service should not end when the uniform comes off. His focus is on creating accessible opportunities for connection, from regular meet-ups to larger shared experiences such as group visits to events like the Battle Proms at Hatfield House.
Marc is involved with The Muster Point because he believes no veteran should ever feel alone. He is committed to helping the organisation continue to provide a welcoming, inclusive community where veterans can reconnect, access support, and feel understood.

Our Patron

Claire Parris
Military wife and long-standing advocate for the Armed Forces community, Claire met her husband Dave while he was serving in Germany in 1988 and has remained closely connected to military life ever since.
After becoming a councillor, she was honoured to take on the role of Veterans’ Champion, using the position to give back and strengthen local support for veterans and their families. From commemorating the Freedom of the Borough for the 2nd Royal Anglian Regiment to supporting delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant and VALOUR, Claire champions practical, joined-up veteran support.
As Patron of The Muster Point, she has supported the organisation since its earliest days and remains committed to ensuring veterans know they are not alone and that help is always within reach.
